The months of December and January are often referred to as the "Giving Season". As the CX Central Operations and Workforce and Staffing Management Team, we will be supporting these Food Drive initiatives in order to assist families and others in need to ensure they have an enjoyable holiday season. Feeding America (AMER), Second Harvest Japan (APJC) and Krakow Food Bank (EMEAR) provide meals and other necessities to those in need. We encourage you to donate to help us reach our goal. All initiatives are listed in Cisco's matching efforts through Bright Funds. All funds donated will be distrubted evenly across all three non-profit organizations. ​

As you may have seen on CEC Cisco is supporting the Movember challenge to raise funds and awareness of men’s health issues. I’m supporting the campaign this Movember by growing my first ever moustache. I like the others doing the Movember challenge are doing this for all the dads, brothers, sons and friends in our lives. Globally, men die nearly 6 years earlier than women. To make it worse, the reasons are largely preventable. Each year more than 500,000 men die by suicide around the world. In fact, suicide is the leading cause of death globally among men aged 15-29. More than 1.3 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. That’s why I’m doing Movember this year: they’re dedicated to changing the face of men’s health and so am I.

By operating mini schools, children can learn safely via classes held in outdoor locations. The classes are small and typically comprise of children and teachers residing within the same hamlet. There is a great emphasis on hygiene, and all attendees are required to wear masks and sanitize their hands at regular intervals. More info can be found here. Improved access to basic necessities Asha Silicon Valley has approved funding for the setup of a sanitary napkin manufacturing unit in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, to manufacture and distribute free sanitary pads to adolescent girls in the districts of Bhilai and Durg in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Meal programs to reduce malnutrition in Madhya Pradesh, India With the dual goal that combines tackling the most important challenges children face in the interior rural areas of Madhya Pradesh - malnutrition and education, Asha Silicon Valley partners with Parivaar to provide nutritious meals to children enabling them to learn better. More details here: bit.ly/pariasha Improving the quality of education for Musahar children in Bihar By funding the operation of special coaching classes in the Jamui district of Bihar, Asha Silicon Valley is helping reduce school dropouts among scheduled caste communities. Child-Friendly Spaces to reduce school dropouts during the post-flood season in Assam Asha Silicon Valley is funding the setup of two child-friendly spaces meant to serve as temporary classrooms immediately after floods in Assam's flood-prone districts. This will help ensure that education is not disrupted for children affected by natural disasters and can continue being taught while their classrooms undergo repair. We here at The Blood Center offer free Antibody testing to each donor with their blood donation. We are also receiving Convalescent plasma donations, which is Plasma from prior COVID Positive Donors who have since recovered and their plasma is used to treat those hospitalized in fighting the virus. In many instances the effect of convalescent plasma on what was initially considered “terminal” patients have been remarkable. However, we seem to have recently “hit a proverbial brick wall”, as many citizens have become apathetic to the need for blood donations for the numerous individuals who battle Leukemia, Lymphoma, Sickle Cell and many other diseases that require blood and blood components for sustenance of life. COVID-19 fatigue has set in for many and while it has been a long-road, we still have a long way to go. If we are truly in this together, then we must all pull together when things get tough to overcome the adversity this pandemic has bestowed upon us while not allowing ourselves to be defeated.

After enduring more than a week of violent clashes between federal and regional forces, civilians in the Tigray region of Ethiopia are in crisis. Communication networks are down, banking services are halted, roads are blocked and there are shortages of basic supplies. Fearing for their lives and the lives of their families, thousands of children, women and men have been forced to flee into Sudan. UNHCR urgently need to scale up supplies so that they are ready to respond as the situation worsens. More than 30,000 refugees have arrived in Sudan exhausted and scared and are being sheltered in transit centers near the border. Water and meals are being provided and UNHCR and the Sudanese authorities are working around the clock to set up a new refugee site to shelter them. Your donation will allow UNHCR to continue to provide urgent, lifesaving help to refugees.

Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition, Helping Pay The Bills When Your Are In The Fight Of Your Life

Children are our hope. However 43 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with cancer every day (as per St. Jude's). Little federal funding is allocated to pediatric cancer compared to adult cancer. The advances in pediatric cancer research can alter the therapies of that of young adults and influence adult cancer. We would like to set up this fund to help Dana Farber Cancer Institute fund novel therapeutics for pediatric cancers, especially for liquid tumors like Leukemia.

This fund is to raise $10,000 for Nalanda 2.0 to enable it to launch Ekagrid, a first-of-its-kind world-class multidisciplinary research university in India, in 2022. Ekagrid (previously University of the Future in India) has reached an agreement with the Karnataka Government to establish Ekagrid in Bengaluru and have signed MOUs. Why does this matter? In the knowledge economy, nations with great universities will thrive. The great universities of the world - be it Stanford, UC Berkeley or MIT of today, or Nalanda of ancient India - are multidisciplinary in nature; serve as engines for research, education, and innovation; drive economic growth; solve the problems of society and humanity; and make lives better for people. However, even after over 70 years of independence, India does not have even one such world-class multidisciplinary research university. What is the current status? Nalanda 2.0 launched this university initiative in 2018. Thanks to the support of over 1075 donors to Nalanda 2.0, which includes Cisco employees and matching company contributions, and dedicated efforts of many, significant progress has been made: assembled an exceptional team, developed an actionable plan, established a Section 8 non-profit company in India with a stellar Board of Directors, announced the founding Chancellor and the founding COO, finalized branding, registered trademarks, and received approvals for 12A and 80G exemptions. With your support, Nalanda 2.0 can complete the key next steps necessary for launching Ekagrid in 2022, including raising Phase 1 funds for the university, purchasing land, receiving regulatory approvals, selecting the founding VC and the founding team, and establishing additional partnerships with premier research universities.

This is a fund that will go to help the elementary kids for Clopton a small rural school. Due to education foundational changes and the lack of internet throughout the schools district remote learning is very hard to accomplish if not impossible for most of the families. This fund it to help raise money to support the needs of the changes needed. The over all goal would be raise enough money to cover chrome books for all kids along with management of them but that would require upwards to 15k dollars and I feel the school will need the money on other educational items first before then.

For the past 8 years, Bridge II Sports has hosted August Madness, a wheelchair basketball tournament fundraiser. Hundreds of people from corporations, community organizations, and universities have been introduced to the life-changing power of adapted sport and the abilities of people with physical disabilities. This year would have been the 9th anniversary of our outstanding event, but COVID-19 has pushed us in an exciting new direction. Virtual Madness still embodies our mission of the event—spread awareness of the competitiveness of adapted sports, break down stereotypes about disability, and support an incredible organization—while keeping all players safe. Instead of a wheelchair basketball tournament, we’re challenging players of ALL skill levels to shoot as many free-throws as possible in 1 minute … while seated in a chair. Same court, same chair, right? We hope you’ll join in the fun from your own chair! COVID has impacted everyone, and funds were given where need was greatest—as it should be. Unfortunately, Bridge II Sports did not receive the funding this year that we have in the past. Our future is at risk as an organization, and we need your help. Why? Hurricane Eta, the 28th storm this season, made landfall in Nicaragua on Tuesday afternoon. As a category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph, the storm has already ravaged Honduras, Nicaragua, and surrounding regions. The storm will continue to hover over Central America through the weekend, bringing along life-threatening flash flooding and mudslides. Reports of Eta's catastrophic damage from rains, winds and flooding in Nicaragua and Honduras have begun to roll in, but it could be days until residents there are able to survey the totality of the impact. It is estimated that 1.2 million people have been affected by the storm, which could move to the Caribbean and southern Florida in the days to come. Bright Funds has established The Hurricane Eta Relief & Recovery Fund to support the communities impacted by the storms. This Fund includes pre-vetted nonprofits providing emergency response in the region. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are working to provide immediate relief; the composition of the nonprofits in this Fund are subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.
