About

The Women's Intuitive Network (WIN) ERG is proud to launch this campaign to raise funds for breast cancer research. While there has been an overall 40 percent decline in breast cancer deaths over the last 30 years—thanks to gains in awareness, early diagnosis, and treatment—there is a persistent mortality gap between Black women and white women. More progress needs to be made to improve outcomes for Black women with breast cancer. Read about the Breast Cancer Research Foundation's work here: https://www.bcrf.org/blog/black-women-and-breast-cancer-why-disparities-persist-and-how-end-them/ Together we can make a difference!

Breast Cancer Research Foundation

At BCRF, we fund people, not just their projects. This means that we seek out the best minds in science and medicine to help us unravel the complexities of cancer, and then we provide them with the funding and freedom to pursue their greatest ideas. Our goal is not only to make new discoveries and invent new methods to address all aspects of breast cancer, but also to do it in record time. Our reward is in lives saved. When you fundraise for BCRF, you support the world's top researchers who deliver better outcomes for people with breast cancer everyday. Without question: research is saving lives.

National Breast Cancer Coalition Fund

For the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC), ensuring quality research means working consistently, year after year, to ensure adequate federal appropriations for high-quality, peer-reviewed research.

In addition, NBCC is committed to making sure those hard-won research funds are well-spent and that relevant research in the private sector addresses the needs of breast cancer patients. NBCC accomplishes this by demanding advocate representation on all relevant review committees and panels and through collaborations with the scientific community.

Death rates from female breast cancer among Black female adolescents and young adults (4.0 per 100,000) were twice as high as among white females (2.0) and Hispanic females (1.8) in this age group. And while breast cancer death rates among adolescents and young adults declined by 3.2% per year from 2001-2010, those declines have stopped between 2010-2018.

What do these numbers tell us? We are not making progress. These trends require bold action by trained breast cancer advocates. We need primary prevention approaches, a push for evidence-based interventions, and treatments that do more than just extend progression-free survival (an outcome with no clinical benefit) by a couple of months if we want to accelerate improvements and save lives.
