Black History Month was established in 1976 under President Gerald Ford, who encouraged Americans to "seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” Following a historic year of activism and community engagement in which cries for racial justice were heard throughout the world, Black History Month 2021 presents a unique opportunity to build on the momentum of the racial justice initiatives so many have generously supported in recent months. This Fund includes nonprofit organizations that are working diligently to promote economic and social justice for Black Americans and to fight racism and intolerance in the United States.

Cisco’s Inclusive Communities have established this Fund to support organizations driving Social Justice across the globe. After you make a donation, be sure to match your contribution through your employer’s matching gifts program if available. If you are a Cisco employee, please make and match your donation at cisco.brightfunds.org. A note on tax deductibility: This fund includes organizations based in the U.S., and in other countries. Donors in the U.S. who make a credit card donation will receive a receipt for tax deductibility for all contributions to this fund or the organizations included. Donors outside the U.S. will not be able to receive a receipt for tax deductibility.

Little Smiles helps professionals give kids in their care the chance to be kids during difficult times. A wide range of caregivers help children of all ages who are facing devastating circumstances including terminal illness, abandonment, and other trauma. These are children who often spend many nights alone in hospitals, hospice facilities, shelters and temporary homes, and who can be subject to painful procedures and other emotional strains that they are not equipped to handle. The professionals working with them understand each child’s unique situation and how to help them heal, but they often lack the resources and financial support to make them smile. That is why they turn to Little Smiles, which provides volunteers, supplies, and funds to make it possible for them to add joy to the lives of the children they care for. Little Smiles helps heal hearts and create little smiles by providing gifts and fun activities to children impacted by serious illness, homelessness or tragedy. Little Smiles believes every child deserves to smile!

CONEXTalk is the leading media program for diversity and inclusion, sponsored by Conexión - Latino Network at Cisco, dedicated to giving Cisco employees of all backgrounds a platform for awareness and advocacy, with the mission of creating and Inclusive Future for All. During the program, Cisconians and keynote speakers will share their own life experiences to help encourage Cisco employees to grow professionally. CONEXTalk also gives viewers the opportunity to learn more about select nonprofits to volunteer and donate to. Any donations made by Cisco or AppDynamics employees will be matched by Cisco! A school for poor children in Uganda was built by the Bulgarian "Smile for Africa" foundation. The school was named DULO after the family name of a long chain of successful Bulgarian rulers - in honour of the collaboration with Bulgaria and for a long mutual aid. International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The Morningstar's Women's Initiative UK has chosen to mark this day in 2021 by fundraising for female-focused charities. Thank you for your contribution!

More than five months since the 4th of August Beirut Port blast, and the work on the ground continues by many NGOs to support those who have been impacted. Ahla Fawda is one of those NGOs that has been very active on the ground in terms of fixing damaged houses, providing temporary housing, providing food, medicines, clothing, and even furniture items for those in need. With the challenging economical situation in Lebanon, internal donors have became scarce, and so like many NGOs, Ahla Fawda continues to rely on the generosity and support of external donors to continue its mission. A Mercy Corps virtual engagement and volunteer activity Join Mercy Corps, for an engaging activity that borrows from the curriculum of their Family Superhero program in Jordan, where they are helping Syrian families cope with the big, complex emotions that come with prolonged stress through art. Aiming to be light and fun, each participant will walk away with tools to better express difficult and complex emotions, develop language for feelings, and help to create a safe space at home. The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, led by The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., was a pivotal time in our nation’s history and has had far-reaching repercussions. Modern movements for racial justice and equality, like the Black Lives Matter movement, are extensions of the work that he started. The protests against systemic racism in 2020 and the insurrection at the beginning of 2021 have proven that the fight for civil rights is far from complete. MLK Day, celebrated nationally on January 18, is a day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s mission, life, and legacy. The holiday, often referred to as “a day on, not a day off,” is dedicated to volunteerism, encouraging people everywhere to reflect and take action in their communities. The call to action on this day is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions for some of our most pressing social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.” Dr. King led the charge to demand the most basic of human rights -- civil rights -- and there are plenty of opportunities to contribute. This Fund is comprised of nonprofit organizations that are fighting for social justice in the U.S. and around the world. We encourage you to give to this campaign, or to search on Bright Funds for a nonprofit that is doing the work to fight racism and intolerance in order to create a more just, equitable world.

Help bring back life to people at Boraie village, Rajasthan, India by supporting this project. Water scarcity has taken a huge toll on villages. In absence of water people face hardships. Many women walk miles daily to fetch water for daily use. Many farmers struggle with farming. Families are forced to pick up alternative livelihoods in nearby cities. Villages are abandoned. Boraie is such a village. Project Oasis is focused on developing self-sustained water resources for water desperate villages in India. By identifying strategic locations with scientific research and local expertise, check dams are built for the villages to ensure year-round availability of water sourced by rainwater harvesting techniques. Reviving Boraie is part of Project Oasis. Boraie is evaluated as a high impact site, where by building a checked dam farmers can have access to water supply throughout the year. A checked dam harvests/preserves rainwater during monsoon, then let it flow away. This collected water goes underground replenishing all wells in the area. In good monsoon the dam will hold 4,03,571 cft = 1,13,00,000 crore litres of water. Each village is unique. At Boraie the planned checked dam is named Aatamni Khalli . This campaign targets funding of $6000 for the purpose of this dam. With checked dam built, following impact is expected at Boraie: --145 families, totaling 1160 people will get access to water throughout the year. --320 migrant/displaced workers will reverse migrate to the village to pick up farming again. --529 Acres of new irrigable land will be generated. --290 new employment opportunities will be generated.
